This is a hand-knotted Persian carpet woven in Nain, Iran.
The design shows the mosque's ceiling viewed from below, and features a pattern spreading outward from a central medallion.
Silk is woven into part of the pattern to give it a three-dimensional look.
Hand-woven carpets have a grain and a counter-grain, and the way the carpet flows affects the way the color appears. Please refer to the second and third photos, which show the color changes clearly.
