This silk carpet is produced by the Bagherzadeh atelier in Qom, Iran, and is considered the finest Persian carpet.
The design, based on a deep blue color, gives off a mysterious atmosphere, as if a beautiful pond has been trapped inside the carpet.
The gracefully swimming Nishikigoi carp are woven in three dimensions, and their colors change beautifully depending on the angle and how the light hits them.
Carp are said to have originated in Persia (present-day Iran) and were introduced to Japan via China about 1,000 years ago.
In Iran, carp are also popular as a symbol of good fortune and abundance.
