The Hagighi Atelier is a prestigious carpet workshop in Isfahan, Iran, that has been preserving its traditions for over 110 years. It was founded by Mehdi Khan Safdarzadeh Hagighi and is now run by his descendants.
Mehdi Khan became independent at a young age and established his own workshop. He demonstrated his outstanding talent in the design and production of Persian carpets, making him famous. His son, Haji Yadullah Khan Safdarzadeh Hagighi, has also followed in his father's footsteps, producing many original pieces. Yadullah Khan's works are housed in renowned museums both in Iran and abroad.
Furthermore, his grandson, Haji Feizulla Khan Hagighi, was born in Isfahan on March 16, 1943. After studying at the Isfahan School of Fine Arts, he created new designs that combined tradition with modern sensibilities, and had a major impact on the Iranian carpet industry. The designs he created, incorporating miniature painting techniques, are known as the "Hagighi style," and many of the works known today as "Hagighi carpets" are his work.
Feizullah Khan's son, Mohammad Mehdi Safdarzadeh Haghighi, has also continued the family tradition and is involved in carpet design and production. Having studied both architecture and carpet design, he is pursuing new forms of expression using his knowledge. Meanwhile, his younger brother, Amirhossein Safdarzadeh Haghighi, is creating works that symbolize the decline of traditional art and the hope for cultural revival.
Hagighi Atelier's carpets are characterized by their delicate fusion of traditional Persian carpet designs with modern sensibilities. They use silk, wool, and cotton as materials, and continue to adhere to traditional dyeing methods using natural dyes. Their works have received high praise both in Iran and abroad, and have won numerous awards.
Their carpets are attractive for their harmonious colors, rich variety, and unique designs. They offer a wide variety of designs, including the Isfahan style, medallions, Islami, Shah Abbasi, garden patterns, and iconography. All are meticulously handcrafted, and their quality is highly acclaimed worldwide.
Hagighi Workshop treasures family ties and traditions, and continues to preserve the techniques and artistry that have been passed down from generation to generation.
