This carpet is from Afghanistan and is a large hand-knotted carpet measuring approximately 200 x 300cm.
It is characterised by a deep dark red colour and is woven with intricate geometric patterns, intricate star motifs, floral and botanical designs.
Made from fine wool, it is soft and velvety to the touch. The tight weave creates a short pile, making it comfortable to use in all seasons. The predominant color is dark red, with white accents that shine like jewels at night.
The carpet has a border around it, which sets off the inner field and the outer frame, which has wavy lines and uses the colours red, navy blue and white, and the overall design is reminiscent of traditional carpets from Central Asia and Persia.
Because it is hand-woven, the color changes depending on the direction it is laid. Attention to detail is evident, with both ends finished with a flat weave with no pile.
