Tabriz is the capital of East Azerbaijan Province, and the rugs woven there are renowned for their beauty and high quality. These rugs are characterized by their elegant and serene finish.
The materials used include precious cork wool, which can only be harvested in small quantities from the neck of lambs, and white silk is used around the intricate patterns to create a sense of depth.
The design features a traditional pattern known as Mahi, which means fish in Persian. Additionally, a medallion design resembling blooming flowers is intricately woven into the center, showcasing a level of craftsmanship that can only be described as art. The surface pile is short and extremely durable.
Handwoven rugs exhibit a characteristic of having two directions of pile, known as '顺目' (normal) and '逆目' (reverse), which affects the visibility of color shades depending on the direction in which they are laid.
