This is a hand-woven silk Persian carpet woven in Qom , located about 100 km south of Tehran, the capital of Iran. It is a gorgeous piece with countless flowers intricately woven into it.
The base color is black, which tightens the overall impression while highlighting the richness and beauty of the colors. Hand-woven carpets have a grain and a counter-grain, and the way the carpet flows changes the way the color appears. (See the 3rd and 4th pictures.)
The white area between the carpet and the tassels is made of silk and is flat woven, but this carpet has a lion pattern woven into the flat woven area, making it a carpet that is full of attention to detail. (See the fourth photo.)
