This Persian carpet was hand-knotted at the Shahryar workshop in Qom , Persia.
The carpet is based on black, and the elegant wine red pattern gives it a luxurious feel. A medallion (a decorative circular design) is woven in the center, and the area around it is filled with intricate arabesque patterns.
Furthermore, the name of the workshop surrounded by Persepolis guards and the rainbow gradation of the tassels (a type of thread tassel) are examples of the attention to detail that goes into the piece.
Hand-woven carpets have a "with grain" and a "against grain" direction of the pile, and the way the color appears changes depending on the direction in which it is laid. Please take a look at the third and fourth photos to see the difference.
