This is a handwoven Persian rug crafted in Tabriz, located in the northwest of Persia.
Tabriz is one of the major cities in Persia and serves as the capital of East Azerbaijan Province.
The rug features a calm and elegant black base color, made from rare cork wool, which is sourced in very small quantities from the neck of lambs.
Additionally, silk is used around the patterns to create a shimmering effect when light hits it, adding a sense of depth.
The design is known as the “Mahi” pattern, which means “fish” in Persian. The intricate weaving not only makes the patterns beautiful but also resembles a piece of art.
The pile is kept short, enhancing the rug's durability. The unique “right” and “left” weaving of handwoven rugs creates a direction in the wool flow, allowing the colors to change in intensity depending on the viewing angle, offering a variety of expressions.
