The ancient city of Nahavand in western Iran is known as a producer of high-quality Persian carpets. The city is located north of Hamadan in northwestern Iran.

Nahavand carpets are made from fine, lustrous wool and feature unique patterns and designs. These durable carpets have linear designs, partly influenced by nomadic peoples. They often have a medallion in the center surrounded by motifs of leaves, flowers and branches. Vase designs are particularly popular. The colors are beautiful, mainly red and beige tones combined against a blue background.
