Kurdish rugs are robust and durable, suitable for everyday use. In particular, the Senneh rugs handwoven by Kurds around Senneh (now Sanandaj) in Iranian Kurdistan are known for their delicate and elegant designs, earning high praise in Europe and the United States.
The patterns of Senneh rugs primarily feature classic designs, often centered around vibrant floral patterns and a central diamond frame (medallion), with detailed motifs of flowers, plants, and bees. Paisley patterns are also used. The color palette typically includes deep blues and reds, although other hues may also be incorporated. The pile of the rugs is said to use high-quality fine wool yarn, while the warp threads are made of cotton and the weft threads of wool, contributing to the flexibility and durability of Senneh rugs.
