Carpets made by the Kurds are sturdy, durable and suitable for everyday use. In particular, the Sene carpets hand-woven by the Kurds around Sene (present-day Sanandaj) in the Kurdistan province of Iran are characterized by their delicate and elegant designs and have been highly praised in Europe and the United States.
Seneh carpets are mainly classical in design, especially Herati (fish) and Bote (paisley) patterns. The predominant colours are deep blue and red, but other hues may also be used. The carpets are made of fine high quality wool yarn for the pile and cotton for the warp and weft, which gives the Seneh carpets their suppleness and durability.
