This is a hand-knotted rug crafted in the southwestern Iranian city of Isfahan.
The wool used is from the neck area of lambs, known as cork wool, which is fine and soft. Silk is woven into the white, shimmering parts to create a three-dimensional effect in the patterns.
It features extremely intricate details and a high knot density.
The center of the rug showcases a medallion, with smooth arabesque patterns radiating outward, resulting in a beautifully luxurious piece.
The soft pink-beige and ivory colors create an elegant and refined impression.
In hand-knotted rugs, there are two directions of the pile known as 'with nap' and 'against nap', which affect the visibility of color shades depending on the laying direction. Please refer to the second and third photos for a clear understanding of the color variations.
Features of Isfahan Persian Rugs
Isfahan rugs use a type of wool called cork wool, which is soft and fine hair around the neck of lambs, known for its durability and stain resistance. They feature delicate and elegant designs, with particularly fine knots that enhance the beauty of the design. Traditional medallions and Islimi patterns resembling mosque ceilings are commonly seen.
