Gabbeh is a hand-knotted rug with long pile created by the Qashqai nomads of southern Iran. Used for generations as floor coverings in tents and as bridal dowries, each rug is crafted through the labor-intensive process of shearing sheep, spinning wool by hand, dyeing with natural plants, and knotting each piece together. In 2010, this weaving technique was registered as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The word "Gabbeh" means "coarse" in Persian, characterized by its rustic and warm texture.
One of its charms is the warmth of the "handmade" quality, which allows you to feel the wishes and backgrounds embedded in the patterns. No two pieces are the same, even from the same weaver, offering the joy of finding a unique piece just for you. The long-pile, densely woven wool rugs are cool in the summer and warm in the winter, providing comfort year-round.
The key to choosing is to start with the size. For living rooms, sizes around 150×200cm or 170×240cm are recommended, while for entrance mats, 80×120cm (for houses) or 60×90cm (for apartments) are ideal. By selecting your preferred colors and patterns, you can find a piece that you will cherish for a long time.
