Pakistani carpets
The history of Pakistani carpets dates back thousands of years.
Weaving was already developed in the Indus civilization (about 5,000 years ago), and the use of floor coverings has been confirmed.
Northern Pakistan had deep ties with Persia and developed under the influence of Greek and Buddhist civilizations.
Later, under the influence of Islam, carpet production began in earnest, and Lahore became the centre of carpet production, especially during the Mughal Empire.
Lahore has maintained its status as a city that began carpet production 500 years ago when Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great brought artisans from Iran to the city.
