Mud is a town located south of Birjan and Mashad and has a long tradition of carpet making.
Mood carpets are often characterised by the "Herati pattern". This pattern runs the whole length of the carpet and is instantly recognisable. It has a central star or hexagonal pattern and may have Persian garden motifs on the strip borders. This design can also be found in Bakhtiari rugs.
The colours used are mainly blue and red, which when combined with the ivory background make the colours stand out even more vividly.
