Sarouk is a village located north of Arak (formerly known as Sultanabad), the capital of Markazi Province in central-western Iran. Together with surrounding villages, it has long been a thriving area for rug weaving, and its name is known worldwide as a designation for high-quality floral pattern rugs.
From the late 19th century to the 20th century, rugs from this region were actively exported to Europe and America, and the vibrant floral-patterned Sarouk rugs adorned the homes of many countries.
Rugs produced in Sarouk are characterized by designs featuring bouquets and medallions. With a foundation of deep reds and navy blues, many compositions scatter floral branches in the corners and borders, combining elegance with approachability.
The weaving is tightly constructed, and the thick wool pile offers excellent durability. This Persian rug is practical and easy to use in everyday spaces such as living rooms.
Additionally, in villages within the Hamadan region, such as Jouzan, vibrant floral-patterned rugs that follow the Sarouk tradition are also woven.
